Lincolnshire Environmental Records Centre
Introduction
Lincolnshire Environmental Records Centre
A Local Records Centre is a not-for-profit service run in partnership for the public benefit, which collects, collates, manages and disseminates information of known quality relating to the wildlife, wildlife sites and habitats for a defined geographical area.
The Lincolnshire Environmental Records Centre (LERC) is part of a national network of Local Records Centres (LRCs).
Aims
- To act as a one-stop-shop for biodiversity information in Lincolnshire.
- To work in partnership with all local recorders.
- To provide a biodiversity information service, at a local level, to local authorities, statutory bodies, and other organisations.
Why records are important
- To locate important wildlife sites in the county, especially those supporting protected species.
- To find new sites for species and habitats.
- To monitor changes in the populations of species or areas of habitats, for example as a result of climate change.
- To enable local authorities, public and private organisations, and individuals to make well-informed decisions.
Data collation, management and updating
- Protected and priority species. Its aim is to hold, or have access to, all available data for protected and national/local BAP species.
- The distribution of priority and other habitats. Its aim is to hold, or at least have access to, all available data relating to semi-natural and BAP priority habitats.
- All statutory designated, non-statutory designated, and other known sites. Its aim is to hold site definitions and digital boundaries for all classes of land of recognised nature conservation importance.
- Other species found in Lincolnshire, including invasive non-native species and those migrating as a result of climate change.
