Online Mapping

Introduction

Lincolnshire Environmental Record Centre's users cover a broad range of disciplines and represent both the voluntary sector (individual naturalists and societies) and the professional sector (commercial developers, statutory agencies, local authorities, environmental consultancies).

As part of the Yorkshire & Humber Environmental Data Network (YHEDN), LERC are helping to develop a number of ways of delivering data online tailored to meet the different requirements of our users.

There are a number of layers including single species distributions, alert maps for individual species, statutory and non-statutory site boundaries and wider environment such as air quality and wind speed. Since these have been developed by the YHEDN project, some layers cover only North and North East Lincolnshire. Over the coming months we will be updating these layers as newer data becomes available and extending them to cover Modern Lincolnshire.

GoogleMaps Layers

GoogleMaps allows users to view mapped data on our website. This has been developed primarily as a free tool for the voluntary sector who do not have access to commercial GIS software but it is also the quickest way to view data on the website.

GoogleEarth Layers

GoogleEarth is provided as another free alternative to a commercial GIS package. GoogleEarth also includes a coarse topography model.

LiveGIS Layers

For commercial GIS users, data can also be provided as a WebFeatureService (WFS) or as a WebMapService (WMS) layers. Users enter a web address into MapInfo or ArcGIS and the layer opens and appears much as a normal GIS shape or tab file.
